Join us for another monthly group meeting via Zoom. We will discuss our usual topics, and arrange a guest speaker.
In January, we will focus our attention on Closing Guantanamo, which started operations on Jan 11th 2002.
Guest Speaker - Todd E. Pierce, military historian and former JAG (pro bono Military Commission Defense Counsel) at Guantánamo, has represented 3 defendants before the Military Commissions at Guantánamo. He has presented on Guantánamo many times before different organizations, including at our own May 2016 meeting and gave an excellent presentation on the dysfunction at Guantánamo. This presentation will mark the 20th anniversary of the opening of the detention center at Guantánamo where there are still 39 prisoners (13 of whom have been cleared for release but remain) at a cost of about $14,000,000 per prisoner per year.

We'll provide envelopes, labels, and paper for letter writing. Let us know if you are not able to write and would like a pre-printed letter. We will also provide stamps.

The Human Rights Program celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, we are hosting the Human Rights Program 20th Anniversary Symposium: Mobilizing Knowledge to Advance Human Rights on November 18 - 19, 2021, in Cowles Auditorium at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs on the University Twin Cities campus.
