Guantanamo Action
Peavey Plaza, Minneapolis. May 5-6, 2006
At around noon on Friday, May 5, 2006, Laura Winton entered a mock cell in Peavey Plaza, downtown Minneapolis, and remained there through the night, the next day, and well into the second night. Over the course of the two days, "guards" monitored the cell while Amnesty International volunteers distributed leaflets and detailed actions to passersby.
Her goal was simple: To remind people that for over five years, about 500 people from over 35 countries have been held without charge or trial, without contact with their families or their lawyers, without any recourse to the courts, at the US Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
During the event, roughly 500 informational flyers and several detailed actions & case sheets were distributed.
